When we use the terminology “classic car”, it implies that we are describing an older vehicle, usually an antique that is still in good condition. However, the terminology is apparently in the “eyes of the beholder”, since it is dependent on how it is being used and for what purpose. There are certain insurance carriers that say a vehicle must be over twenty years of age to be classified as a classic vehicle, while others say as long as it is pre 1970, its okay. As far as registration with various state motor vehicle administrations, the same situation exists. There is no consistency whatever. The Classic Car Club of America has yet another definition, whereby their definition of “classic” says it must have been manufactured before 1948. The Antique Automobile Club of America simply states that if a vehicle is twenty-five years of age or older, then it is considered to be a classic car. It’s doubtful if any national or international authority will ever address this. I guess if you feel that your 1985 Cadillac is a classic car, who can say that you are wrong?
